Why Bowie’s Best Adventures Don’t Come with an Age Limit

July 29, 20252 min read

There’s something magical about deciding—on your own terms—that it’s time to do something just for you. Not because it's trendy. Not because it’ll look good on social. But because you’re finally ready to say: Why not?

Here in Bowie, we’ve got late bloomers everywhere. Neighbors taking up salsa dancing. Grandparents learning TikTok (bless their hearts). People going back to school, joining choirs, or planting gardens like they’re starting a farm.

And why not? Who made the rule that says your boldest, weirdest, or most joyful chapter has to come before 40?

Life After “Someday”

Maybe you’ve spent years saying “someday.”

  • Someday I’ll learn Spanish.

  • Someday I’ll take up yoga.

  • Someday I’ll get back on a bike.

Well—about that last one? It turns out I never did learn to ride a bike. But this year, I’m changing that. I’ve got the wheels. I’ve got the will. And yes—I’ve got the magenta helmet covered in glitter and rhinestones to match my biking shoes. Because if I’m going to learn as an adult, I’m going to look fabulous doing it.

Why not now? Why not me?

The Joy of Not Being Done

One of the best things about Bowie is that no one here expects you to be finished. You’re allowed to keep growing, shifting, blooming. You can take up tai chi, plant tomatoes for the first time, or join a community theater group just because it looks fun.

There’s room here for reinvention. For whimsy. For people who are still figuring it out—and for those of us who finally stopped caring what anyone else thinks.

So if you’re looking for a sign to try something new—this is it.There’s room in the Late Bloomers Club, and no age limit at the door.

Late Bloomers, unite! If Bowie doesn’t have a club yet, consider this your founding meeting.
