The Joy of Learning: Discovering the Creative Side I Never Knew I Had

March 11, 20251 min read

I’ve always considered myself arts-challenged. Drawing? Nope. Painting? Not happening. Designing anything from scratch? Let’s not even go there. Creativity, at least in the traditional sense, seemed to have skipped me entirely.

Or so I thought.

The Canva Discovery

Recently, I started learning Canva, and suddenly, a whole new world opened up. Playing around with colors, layouts, and designs made me realize—I am creative. Maybe not with a paintbrush, but with storytelling, visuals, and ideas. And honestly? It’s fun.

A Family of Artists—So Why Did I Think I Was Left Out?

My family is filled with musicians, artists, and storytellers. My mother designed little girls’ clothing from scratch—she didn’t just sew, she created her own patterns! Looking back, I wonder why I ever thought creativity skipped me. Maybe because my version of it just looked different.

Now that I’ve unlocked this side of myself, I’m already thinking… what’s next? Sculpting class? Literature? Performing arts? Why not? Creativity isn’t a single skill—it’s a mindset. And the possibilities? They’re endless.

Closing Reflection

Maybe you, like me, have convinced yourself you can’t do something—whether it’s art, music, or another skill you’ve always admired from afar. But what if you gave yourself the chance to explore it? You might surprise yourself.

What’s something new you’ve tried—or want to try—that completely changed how you see yourself? See you at the art store!
