The Parking Lot Pep Talk
The other day I watched a woman in the grocery store parking lot struggling to lift a heavy case of water bottles into her trunk. Before I could even start walking over, a teenage boy in a school hoodie swooped in, lifted the case like it was a shoebox, and gently placed it in her car. She thanked him, and he gave her a nod like it was no big deal—then turned to walk off.
But just before he reached his car, she called out, “Hey! You’re gonna make a great man someday.”
And he froze—just for a second. Then he smiled the kind of smile you tuck away and keep for later. I swear he stood a little taller after that.
It took 20 seconds. No hashtags, no audience, no app. Just two humans doing right by each other in a parking lot.
Because kindness? It doesn’t need a stage.
